The celebration of Valentine's Day as a universal phenomenon is to emphasize the significant of love in human society. Holiday is declared in some countries to celebrate this annual event. As we are approaching 14 th of February, which is the valentine day, is the increasing need to reflect on the social implications of participating in the lover's day celebration. Relationships among people are usually consolidated on Valentine's Day. It is a day that is more convenient for dating. Besides, wedding anniversary could be fixed for Valentine's Day. This unique celebration gives room for reappraisal of relationship between persons.
In deed, the day is symbolic as people freely talk about love, relationship, romance and sex. Exchange of greeting cards by lovers usually characterized the day. In some cultures, people visit one another to commemorate the annual celebration of the lover's day. It creates opportunity for intimate companions to come together in the spirit of love, affection and friendship. Beautiful flowers and confectionary could be sent to friends as valentine gifts. The literary minded ones do compose poems to express their love, feeling and affection on the day of valentine.
The most romantic valentine day is the one celebrated in lonely places by lovers.
Valentine could be made to be memorable when you perplexed your sweetheart with all kinds of romance and valentine day surprises. I suggest you spend reasonable time watching your favourite romantic movies with your lover. The serenity of the environment you take your lover to will determine how memorable the valentine day would become to your partner. Sweet loving words and love quotes through verbal communication or text messages could enliven the partners on valentine day. Romantic love stories could be related to the love ones to commemorate the occasion.
In developing countries of the world, rape incidences are common experiences on the day of valentine. Prayer sessions could be organized to mark the day apart from merry making. Again, a person may develop sense of denial, deprivation and neglect if one does not receive love messages from ones partner on Valentine's Day.
Abuse of the privileges of the day is more prevalence among youths than the elderly people. In some countries of the world particularly Nigeria , sexual harassments, illicit behaviours and other forms of immoralities are common occurrences on Valentine's Day. Many young innocent ladies who are virgins could loose their virginity to Valentine's Day temptations and madness. There is tendency for increase in reported cases of unwanted pregnancies as a result of Valentine's Day celebration.
It is against this background that I recommend an improved participation in Valentine's Day celebration for the youths if the objective is solely to promote spirit of love, cooperation and affection.

I was not aware, Rahaman, that incidents of rape increase on Valentine's Day. That's so inverted: A day devoted to love is turned into the brutal acts that rapes are! Thanks for a well-written piece. ~mogama~
That's a very good article that you have written and I also agree with you on this one, here in India also on this day such lewd crimes occur and harassment occurs with girls; which is totally against the spirit of this day !
